SSP's MP (Multi-Purpose, Unimodal) series. The unimodal-leaning distribution produces high clarity with pronounced acidity. In filter the cup leans clean and tea-like; in espresso it tends more acidic than standard burrs with medium body and a long aftertaste.

The axes show the direction the burr leans toward. Higher values mean that quality stands out more than average; lower values mean it comes through lighter.
The most common MP size. Drops into many single-dose home grinders. Suits people who use one grinder for both espresso and filter.
Larger surface area increases throughput and gives slightly more body retention. The character stays close to 64mm but grinds faster per gram.
The MP series uses a unimodal-leaning geometry: teeth that aim to cluster particles around one dominant size, with very few fines and fewer oversized particles. This is different from HU's bimodal approach (two ends, mostly clustered in the middle with a small fraction of fines).
The cup in filter
MP's unimodal-leaning distribution produces high clarity with clean, pronounced acidity and a profile close to the "tea-like" character HU also delivers. The difference from HU is mainly directional. In filter, MP tends to highlight fruitiness and active acidity, while HU gives a cooler, more delicate description of the variety itself. Both suit specialty light roasts, but the cup comes out different.
The cup in espresso
Here the difference is more pronounced. MP in espresso is known for pronounced, transparent acidity, relatively low body, and a long aftertaste with distinct flavor layers. This makes the series especially popular for light-roast espresso brewers looking for a defined, acidic profile. HU in espresso, by contrast, leans toward fuller body and a chocolatey character. People who prefer a more classic espresso style tend toward HU; those after a modern, acidic, transparent espresso pick MP.
The technology
Casting is equivalent to HU's precision, but the geometry is different. MP is available uncoated or with Red Speed (titanium nitride). Uncoated burr life is around 600-800kg. Coated extends to about 1500kg.
The difference from HU
Both series come from the same family but lean differently. HU = narrower distribution, exceptionally clean filter with light body, fuller and more chocolatey espresso. MP = unimodal-leaning, filter with more active acidity, acidic and transparent espresso with a long aftertaste. Neither set is "better". One fits a specific style more closely than the other.
