Weber Workshops' advanced burr set for the EG-1 grinder. The DB-2 geometry is engineered for maximum clarity, high extraction control, and exceptional flavor separation. Considered a high-water mark for specialty filter performance.

The axes show the direction the burr leans toward. Higher values mean that quality stands out more than average; lower values mean it comes through lighter.
The DB-2 set is proprietary to the EG-1 platform. The 80mm flat geometry with Weber's blind-shim alignment achieves a sub-micron parallelism between the burrs that other 80mm grinders don't reach.
The Weber Workshops EG-1 is among the most respected specialty grinders globally, with a price tag that reflects its engineering precision. Its burr set is a major part of that performance, and three variants are available to owners.
Three burr variants
CORE (DB-1) — the standard set. Versatile geometry that works well for both espresso and filter. Considered the balanced pick.
ULTRA (DB-2) — the advanced set, this entry's subject. Designed specifically for high-extraction filter and clarity-extreme espresso. Tight unimodal geometry with strong fines control.
BASE (DB-3) — the original set from the EG-1 Mk.1. Offers a more classic profile.
The cup with DB-2
The extremely precise particle distribution produces a cup that is layered and especially articulate. High clarity, strong floral aromas, and clean acidity. Body comes out lighter, similar to SSP HU, but with broader flavor width. The separation between flavor layers stands out — you can identify distinct notes that would blend together on other grinders.
The proprietary technology
Blind-shim alignment: Weber developed an alignment system that achieves sub-micron parallelism between the burrs. This matters because the peak performance of a flat burr depends heavily on how parallel the two burrs are to each other. Any deviation creates regions with different gap heights, leading to uneven cuts.
The cup in espresso
For very light roasts, DB-2 produces an exceptional shot. The sharp edge of the distribution delivers espresso with distinct flavor layers, clean acidity, and a profile that approaches what competition espresso aims for. With medium or darker roasts, however, this set doesn't deliver the classic body that espresso users typically expect.
Who tends to consider this set
Mostly EG-1 owners replacing worn burrs or upgrading from DB-1/DB-3. Buying a DB-2 set without the grinder is rare because it costs significantly more than other 80mm sets and the mounting is proprietary.
An interesting alternative: SSP produces 80mm sets compatible with the EG-1 in HU and MP geometries, at a notably lower price. Many EG-1 owners run SSP as a second set with a different character.
