This variety was first selected in 1903 from a Typica population planted on an estate in the Pasoemah region of Palembang, Sumatra, by the estate manager, Kissing. In Java, the variety was further improved by the Besoekische Proefstation (now known as ICCRI) under the name Blawan-Pasoemah (BLP). It was first planted in 1912 on the Pantjoer Estate. However, the variety was never officially released at the national level, and its commercial cultivation remains limited to state-owned plantations on Java.
