Adapted for agroforestry, with good yields and high resistance to rust in global trials.

This variety was introduced to Indonesia directly from the Centro de Investigação das Ferrugens do Cafeeiro (CIFC), Portugal, in 1985. It was one of many breeding lines distributed to coffee breeding programs around the world to enable the selection and release of coffee leaf rust-resistant varieties. The breeding process was started in 1987-1992, with selection for both rust resistance and yield. This variety was released in 1993 for commercial planting. Its resistance to rust locally in Indonesia has declined, but in global trials, it continued to show high resistance overall. In Indonesia, the variety today is primarily recommended on the island of Java, but is no longer recommended for smallholder farmers due to the risk of rust and the plant's preference for higher inputs.
